MATERNITY, NEWBORN, MILESTONE

Gosh! What a sweet time! I know you are buzzing with excitement- I can feel it! If you are here, then you feel the desire deep within to document this incredible journey! I can't wait to share it with you! Check out these frequently asked questions, and let's talk about your new bundle of joy!

Q: When should I schedule my newborn or fresh 48 session? +

A: Before your baby is born! It is so important to plan ahead. Capturing your newborn within the first two weeks of life while they are still sleepy and curled up, can make all the difference in your newborn portraits. Ashley’s schedule fills up about four weeks in advance so please call to schedule your newborn appointment before your baby is born. Since we never really know when your little one will arrive we will put you on our calendar to hold a spot for you. When your baby is born we will move your appointment accordingly. If your baby came early or if your baby is already born, don’t panic! We always do our best to squeeze newborns into our schedule and older babies take beautiful portraits too.

Q: When should I schedule my maternity session? +

A: As soon as possible! We can start planning ideas and prepping. I like to take maternity pictures at around 30+ weeks, when you have a good little bump and still feel comfortable.

Q: Do you do styled shoots? +

A: No. I am a lifestyle photographer and I believe less is more. We will use wraps and some props, but I like to keep my focus on you and your baby.

Q: May I bring any props that are sentimental? +

A: Yes! We love for you to bring any unique props – letters, clothing, baseball glove, stuffed animals, etc. It will make your pictures much more personal. We will work your props into the session when possible and let you know if something will not work.

Q: Where does my newborn session take place? +

A: In the comfort of your home! ANP will send you information on how to prepare and what to expect. Fresh 48 will take place in the hospital or birthing center you deliver at.

Q: I saw a particular pose that I would like you do with my newborn, is that possible? +

A: We can try our best for certain poses and sets, but ultimately your baby is in control of the session. We always begin with a set of ideas, but quite often we have to be flexible depending on your baby’s sleep habits, feeding schedule and personality. As well, not all newborns are “moldable” for certain positions based on weight, age, flexibility, and body structure.

Q: What happens if my baby starts crying or gets fussy? +

A: It’s completely NORMAL for your baby to wake up during the photo session and sometimes get a little fussy. We continue to work through their fuss with warmth, a little rocking and a bit of patience. Your baby will likely require a feeding at some point during the session and this usually solves the more dramatic fussiness issues. At that point we will all take a break and you will be able to give your baby a full feeding or if you bottle feed, Ashley is happy to feed your baby.
