Intimate, unique, fun, and unhurried couples photography is the vibe. This pair travels the world together, rebuilds and repairs campers, and lives a life unbound by traditions. They wanted a session that reflected their connection and shared their story.
What is an adventure session?
For these two, it was a secluded private location in the big thicket. Once we secured a location and set the date, we arranged travel and accommodations for everyone. They arrived early to set up their camper and get things ready before the session started.
Part of the beauty of a session like this is documenting the every day. I planned to arrive early so I could get familiar with the location as well as ease into shooting.
First as an observer, then as director, and the rest flowed naturally from there.
Adventure sessions are unhurried, slow and documentary style. We toasted the couple with a drink and then started hiking the camp grounds to see what we could find. While we started with a few prompts, they easily fell into a comfortable groove with one another- holding hands, kissing and letting the wild feel of the air carry them through the session.
Bare feet to the ground, the wind at our backs, and over 300 acres of nature surrounding them, their connection is something that can be felt through the images, coming to life in a real and intimate way.
Couples sessions are all about embracing the feeling of the moment. Sometimes it can feel silly or even weird to be so vulnerable in front of the camera. That is why it is so important to have a solid vision as well as a good connection with your photographer.
Even though looking at this photos it feels impossible that there could have been an awkward moment at all, it’s important to feel those moments and even laugh through them.
Besides feeling connected with your photographer, I encourage you to talk through the process with them and take the time to invest in an unhurried session like this.
The more time you have to open up and get comfortable with the process, the better and more authentic the results.
