Inside My Camera Bag

What Is In Ashley’s Camera Bag?

Houston Family Photographer

I’m not an influencer so I’m not here to sell you anything or pretend I’m super special. And I won’t be offended if you scroll on by- after all, this is a family blog and today I am talking about gear.
But I do wanna talk to photographers or aspiring photographers today.
We all start somewhere and your equipment does not have to be fancy or expensive to be good. I am a firm believer in that your gear doesn’t make magically better photos. In fact, you can have the best gear that is available and still take bad photos.
It is important to start with what you have and learn the basics- get comfortable with your camera and shooting in manual mode. Join local groups, ask for advice, and don’t compare your journey to anyone.

I started with my first Canon in college- from there I just stayed with the brand. It was just a Powershot digital that frankly is out performed by my cellphone now. But it was the very first camera I had ever bought and I was so proud of it!
Later, my parents bought me a film camera for my classes and that was the day I never looked back. It sparked my entire career and love affair with Canon.

After falling in love with photography, I upgraded to a Canon Rebel XSI. Kit lens and all, I was out there kicking booty and documenting life. I refused to let a week go by without taking pictures of my kids or trying new things.
The first time I finally made a jump was with my nifty fifty (50mm EF lens). I was craving that creamy background and trying to figure out how to get “bokeh”. It changed everything for me and launched me into building my business from there.
It was the creative spark I needed to unlock something deep inside.

It has taken me over 10 years to build my business. Go easy on yourself and take it a step at a time.

So what is in my bag now?

Canon R5
Canon 1.4 35mm
Canon 1.4 50mm
Lensbaby Sol 45mm
