What Is A Couples Adventure Session?

To be fully vulnerable, connected and open for storytelling is one of the most beautiful experiences. When I first started my photography journey over 10 years ago, I dreamt of being able to capture raw moments like the ones in this blog.
Now I have the absolute pleasure of being able to get creative with the wonderful humans who trust me to capture their connection.
Whether you are wanting to capture something creative, quirky, fun or even celebratory- there is space for you.
If you don’t know me already, my name is Ashley Newman and I am a photographer known for my colorful, storytelling work.
It brings me so much joy to share this incredible love story here today.
So what is an adventure session?
It’s intentional time carved out to showcase your love. I want to get to know you and your love story so that together, we can a gallery of art that reflects back what is between you.
What I mean by that is, I want to be a mirror, reflecting your love back to you. All the vulnerability, the love…the realness of being human.
A adventure session may require walking. It may mean a longer drive to a private location. At the end of the day, it’s unhurried time with no session before or after yours.
This couple had a specific vision, all based around a song and particularly an album. So we picked a secluded location, brought along our portable music, and let the rest flow.
It was important to spend time getting to know what their vision was and what their comfort levels were with the photos themselves. It was also vital to have real time carved out. I find even with the families I work with that the best work doesn’t happen until we get closer to the end of the session.
What should I bring to my couples session?
It all depends on your specific vision, but I would aim for a few simple things:
- music- bring a play list that fits your vibe or feeling for the session
- personal items- anything that is important to your vision. This couple brought a mirror, stones and outfit changes
- drinks- have a drink together and relax as you ease into your session. If you aren’t a drinker, bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage
Making time to document your life is never a wasteful decision. Make sure you take time to connect with your photographer, fill out their questionnaire and explain your full vision. Leave your nerves at home and embrace the experience of telling your love story!
