What To Expect At Your Engagement Session

They meet and the rest is history. Freshly returned from their international wedding and a move to New Orleans, this sweet couple is full of fun and laughter. The sun hung heavy on the horizon and the heat was finally beginning to loosen it’s grip on the day when we went to play in a field. Laughter, joy and love flooded my camera and my heart. I adore this couple and their spirit for life.
Are you ready for your engagement session?
It’s a thrilling time but a lot of couples don’t know what to expect when it comes to their engagement session. For many, this is the first time they have ever had professional photos taken. And for others, it may just feel odd or strange to document their love with a photographer who is virtually a stranger.
Yeah, I get that. But it’s so worth documenting for so many reasons!
My engagement sessions are organic and natural. I like to spend unhurried time with you and let your story slowly unfold during our session.
Booking Your Engagement Session
Shortly after you say, “yes!”, is when I recommend going ahead and scheduling your engagement session. Even if you have a wedding date that is set far away, or you are undecided on a day, capture the newness and excitement right then. I mean, you just agreed to spend the rest of your life with someone! It’s kind of a big deal. So find a photographer you feel connected with and have them document that.
Preparing For Your Engagement Session
I like to ask my clients a few questions just to get to know them a little more. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you like, but the more you share the more I’m able to channel your story. During this time we will pick a location that reflects the look you are hoping for, select outfits that speak to your styles, and prepare for the session. I’m here to help you select clothing that coordinates and be your voice of reason— “Heck yes girl, that dress looks amazing!” or “Let’s try a white shirt for him instead.”
During Your Engagement Session
This is the time to be yourself! I will guide you through poses and prompts to help your personalities come out and be able to authentically tell your story. I’m sure we will get some traditional shots of you both looking at the camera, but ultimately I want the images to reflect your unique personalities and the love that brought you together. We may take long walks, lots of kisses, and even some games 😉
After Your Engagement Session
The hard part is over, and now the wait begins! Don’t worry, i won’t make you wait too long 😉 Generally a sneak peek is posted 1-2 weeks after our session, with your final gallery being delivered 3-4 weeks after the shoot. Many couples use the pictures to announce their engagement, send save the dates or display at their wedding. Either way, it’s a memory with documenting!
