Why is Family Photography Important?

Feels like a crazy question to ask…and yet, I sometimes find myself faced with answering this question. Whether directly or just in general, I think it’s crazy important to be able to understand the importance of photos.
More and more I feel like we are taking the art of photography for granted. With a camera on every phone, watch and device (even for children), there is no limit to being able to capture moments.
But what us the quality? And where is the artistry?
To me, those are the two single biggest reasons to have professional portraits made right there.
It’s a future investment in your legacy and family.

When was the last time you tried to print a photo you took with your cell phone? Can it be blown up? Preserved for your family? Has it been printed in an album?
It’s about more than social media, posting your best insta-life and moving on, guys!!
And now I am going to talk directly to you, mama! When was that last you were in a photo? Not a selfie or one your well meaning partner took (and maybe cut your feet off at the bottom?) In the moment it’s so nice to have these little snapshots, but long term, they don’t stand the test of time. They don’t truly capture you and they don’t get printed.
Ok, ok…I will get off my soap box.

But this is why! This is why photography is so important. You get to sit back, relax and let someone else take the reins for a little while. You have a legacy that is professionally preserved and you know you are in good hands.
This darling family right here is why. Their son will have these forever. And I guess I’m so passionate about this because my family doesn’t have many pictures left. We lost everything in a storm when I was growing up and nothing was preserved or backed up anywhere. My children don’t have pictures of me to look back on and I don’t have anything to reflect on.
The world changes so quickly- being able to reflect is so important.
