How I Became a Newborn Photographer
For me, it all started the moment I knew I wanted to be a mom. I knew one day I would want a family, but suddenly we couldn’t have children and everything felt like it was crashing down. Suddenly I wanted to be a mom more than anything else in the world.
And I couldn’t.
After years of fertility treatments and trying, our one shot at being parents happened. And in 2012 our miracle rainbow baby was born. I like to tell people that was when my photography business was born as well. But the seed had been planted years before in college. I had taken film photography classes my entire college career and fell in love with the process of not only developing my own film but the images as well. While I had been taking photos for years, I began to see my work through the eyes of a parent. It was all new.
Gone was the vision of perfectly curated photos of my children smiling and with it came the rush of photographing my children as they are. The beautiful mess of it all. The glory of the good days with the bad days. We had had so many bad days before that these messy little golden moments felt even more important than ever.
